EDUCATION & TRAINING

I studied lower primary education at Halisi Teachers training institute in Nairobi.

CURRENT ROLE & IMPACT

I now teach Pp2 students English and Kiswahili at Elevation Academy Kibera. I love watching my pupils discover their voice through writing and storytelling.

PERSONAL INTERESTS & HOBBIES

I love singing children’s songs, drawing simple art for class walls, and mentoring young girls in my community.

BACKGROUND & CALLING

I grew up in Mathare, another Nairobi slum. Life there was not easy, but school gave me a safe space where I could dream of a better future. I chose to become a teacher so I could offer that same safe space to other children.

PASSION & TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe every child has a story worth telling, and education should help them discover it.

CHALLENGES & NEEDS

Many students cannot afford exercise books, text books or pens, making it hard for them to practice reading and writing.

DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE

I hope to start a literacy program in Kibera, with a small library where children can borrow storybooks.
